Hepatitis A is a self-limited disease and chronic stage or other complications are rare. Infections occur early in life in areas with poor sanitation and crowded living conditions. With improved sanitation and hygiene, infections are delayed and consequently, the number of persons susceptible to the disease increases. Because the disease is transmitted through the faecal-oral route, in densely populated regions an outbreak can arise from a single contaminated source.

The Fortress Diagnostics Human Hepatitis A Virus kits are intended for use in the qualtitative detection of IgG and IgM class antibodies to human hepatitis A virus in human serum or plasma. It is intended for use in clinical laboratories for the diagnosis of acute hepatitis A and the management of patients related to infection with hepatitis A virus.
